Iphone 2nd Generation
The third iPhone
Since its launch, apple’s iphone has revolutionized the Mobile Phone industry. Although apple did not initially bring anything new to the table in terms of hardware and functionality, it did provide an easy to use operating system. The iphone combined your mp3 player, internet browsing, video watching and a movement sensitive interface into one single device.
The 2nd generation went a lot further, bring GPS, 3G and user designed and released apps to the table. This helped to cement iphones as THE mobile phone of choice.
Now we are waiting for the release of the 3rd iphone.
There are rumours circulating as to what may be available;
-Intel powered CPU
-32 Gigabyte Hard Drive
-Reality Augmentation capabilities.
Reality Augmentation is by far the most exciting capability.
With the iPhone’s 3G version there’s nothing that stands in the way; there’s bandwidth, GPS location and then the phone’s accelerometer. These combined could be used to augment reality.
The accelerometer could track which way you’re facing and when you turn, the GPS where you are and the 3G could provide a fast and live connection to something like Google’s maps.
You could point your iphone at a building, and it would tell you the name of the business, the telephone number, the web address etc etc. You could also revolutionize the computer games market. You can now have virtual pets who walk around on your desk, interact with your actions. A super version of tamagochies.
Although no release date has yet to be set, people are predicting the new iphone to be released in September 2009. I for one hope to be one of the first people in Salt Lake City to get my hands on one.
